SOUTH Africa’s independent telecommunication operator, Nashua Mobile has seen its ability to transmit voice over a data network grow rapidly.
EasiVoice is a Nashua Mobile’s Internet Protocol (IP) telephony product which introduces the ability to transmit voice over a data network.
The recently introduced mobile technology is widely viewed as easy, user friendly and affordable.
Responding to questions by our reporters, Nashua Mobile Executive Head of Marketing, Tim Walter, said traditional phone systems relied on circuits switched by Private Branch Exchange (PBX) equipment and phone lines connected to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).
“The Nashua Mobile EasiVoice product bypasses this conventional telephone hardware, transmitting voice over the company’s existing data network.
“The system converts the signal digitally and sends it by voice data packets through an Internet Protocol (IP) such as a standard broadband connection or the corporate internet
“It can also access the public switched telephone network, allowing calls to reach conventional land lines,” said Walter.
He said the compatibility between IP telephony and PSTN enables businesses to migrate to IP Telephony gradually without abandoning their legacy system.
